With the new Premier League campaign just a few weeks away, all 20 teams have been busy in the summer transfer window, looking to reinforce their teams. While most have made progress, the same can’t be said for Manchester United, whose fans are growing anxious as each day passes.
Ruben Amorim desperately needs reinforcements after the Red Devils suffered their worst-ever Premier League finish at 15th in the standings. However, they’ve only had one notable acquisition as of this writing. Because of this, their Premier League 2025 odds of making it back to the Top 4 look very slim.
In stark contrast, Liverpool have had a productive offseason so far, but the defending champions are not yet done. Arne Slot’s men plan to eliminate more deadwood to make room for recruits. This is also the same case for Arsenal.

Manchester United still can’t get Mbeumo’s signature
Manchester United’s summer was off to an auspicious start after they signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves in just the first few weeks. Cunha is a proven playmaker and scorer, as he notched 15 league goals and six assists last season. They also brought in Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno, making him the first-ever Paraguayan international to represent the Red Devils. However, Leon just turned 18, so he may need some time before he cracks into the first team.
One of the biggest problems the Red Devils have is their lack of enough clinical finishers in the final third. They have been linked with Bryan Mbeumo, who had 20 league goals and seven assists last term and could fit alongside Cunha in the attacking midfield area. However, Manchester United’s negotiations with Brentford have bogged down. Victor Osimhen, Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Viktor Gyokeres were also linked with a move to Old Trafford, but to no avail.
While they got rid of Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen, and Jonny Evans, they couldn’t do the same for Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia. It seems that no club is willing to buy these five wantaway players, so Amorim is stuck with them in the meantime.
Arsenal close to signing Gyokeres

Arsenal’s lack of a distinguished striker has doomed them last season, so they’re keen on not making the same mistake this year. After all, Gunners fans have grown antsy with head coach Mikel Arteta because of the team’s lack of trophies compared to his colleagues.
After acquiring Kepa, Martin Zubimendi, and Christian Norgaard, and releasing Takehiro Tomiyasu and Thomas Partey, Arsenal have their eyes on Viktor Gyokeres, one of the frontrunners for the European Golden Shoe after notching 39 league goals and seven assists last term.
Gyokeres is keen on joining the Gunners, but Sporting are playing hardball with Arsenal. According to local reports in Portugal, Sporting have requested four specific clauses to be included in the deal for the Swedish international, with each rewarding €2.5 million if achieved.
The first clause would be activated following Gyokeres’ first 20 games in the Premier League, with the second triggering if he completed a second 20-game block. Qualifying for the Champions League would see Sporting net another one of the four clauses, with the fourth and final clause to be triggered after Gyokeres completes another 20 games in his second season at the Emirates.
Arsenal are widely believed to be paying Sporting in the region of €63.5 million plus an additional €10 million in bonuses. Should this deal go through, Sporting must pay €4.35 million to Coventry City, who included a 10-per cent sell-on clause when they sold him back in 2023.
Liverpool choosing between two strikers
Liverpool are keen to retool their frontline this offseason, following the untimely passing of Diogo Jota. The Reds are also listening to offers for Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah likely to stay.
After acquiring Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez, Liverpool reportedly plan to get a striker, with Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak as their top choices. Ekitike has shouldered the scoring load for Eintracht Frankfurt when Omar Marmoush joined Manchester City. On the other hand, Isak has been Newcastle United’s top scoring threat, but the Magpies might be tempted to sell him given their financial constraints.
If Isak is sold to Liverpool, Newcastle United will likely go after Ekitike as his replacement. However, there’s also a potential scenario where Newcastle United would have Isak and Ekitike together in the final third, though such a development will be very costly.
