A new era is about to be ushered in at the Tottenham Hotpsur Stadium when Thomas Frank leads the Whites out for the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.
A new manager at Spurs is nothing to write home about. The 51-year-old Dane is the sixth man in the dugout over the past five seasons, replacing Ange Postecoglou following the affable Aussie’s departure at the end of the last season.
Postecoglou left with his head held high, as Tottenham won the 2025 Europa League Final in May, the first piece of silverware the club has seen since 2008. And so, next season with Frank at the helm, this proud old club is back in the Champions League.
But they did finish 17th in the Premier League last term, and London pride has been in short supply at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium recently, as the Whites have lived in the shadow of North London neighbours Arsenal for far too long. And the preseason Premier League 2025 betting odds say there is still a sizeable gap to close between Frank’s team and the Gunners.
That Europa League triumph was hugely significant, of course, just ask Manchester United fans who face a season of toil, or at least transition, after missing out on European participation for 2025-26 entirely.
Frank brings with him a fine reputation, leading Brentford to the Premier League in 2021 to become only the second Bees manager to achieve promotion to the top-flight, and he kept the West London side among the elite for the next four years on a budget a fraction of the size of the big clubs.
His move to Spurs was a blow to Brentford but not entirely unexpected, as Frank has been courted by clubs with bigger resources for some time, and he certainly deserves his chance.
What does Frank have to work with?
Tottenham undoubtedly has one of the more talented squads in the English top-flight, but they had a catastrophic time with injuries last term, losing their captain Heung-Min Son for much of the early part of the campaign as well as their first-choice goalkeeper, best centre-back, and midfield general.
Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, and Rodrigo Bentancur all recovered to take part in the latter part of the campaign, and they will form the spine of Spurs’ team again this season. Whether Dominic Solanke can step up to be the spearhead of the attack is still in the balance, but I believe Frank’s man-management skills and coaching will see Solanke thrive.
At Brentford, Frank used two quick strikers in Bryan Mbeumo and Yoanne Wissa, and he has some lively forwards to work with in Richarlison, Mathys Tel, and Wilson Odobert, while Brennan Johnson and James Maddison are two of the best attacking midfielders in the business.
Johnson scored 18 goals in 51 appearances last term to be the highest scorer at the club. Maddison suffered an injury-interrupted campaign and is currently in light training, while winger Dejan Kulusevski will miss the start of the new season. In Johnson, the Whites have a real superstar who is yet to reach his peak, and he will go from strength to strength under the new manager.

In other Premier League 2025 news, Mohammed Kudus has signed for Spurs for €55 million from West Ham United, and he will fight for a place among the creative unit. The 24-year-old Ghanaian star moved from Ajax to the Hammers in 2023.
In his debut campaign, Kudus bagged 13 goals to be the club’s highest-ever Ghanaian scorer, including a wonder goal in a Europa League match against SC Freiburg, when he picked the ball up in his half and dribbled past three defenders before finishing in style. He finished that campaign with the most successful dribbles in the Premier League with 124, and Kudus is a player who can get the fans on their feet with his searing pace and trickery.
There is no shortage of talent in this squad, and there will surely be more incomings over the next few weeks. On Saturday, the club was reported to have enquired about Bayern Munich’s Joao Palhinha. The former Fulham man is a strong tackling box-to-box midfielder, and I believe he’d be a perfect fit for a team which has had a soft centre all too often over the past two decades. If Frank brings Palhinha in, that would be a big moment at the club.
Spurs start their new season with a home match against newcomers Burnley on 16th August, a game this SBOTOP writer has a keen interest in. I strongly suspect we’ll be previewing Frank’s Tottenham debut over the next couple of weeks or so.
