La Liga: Real Madrid’s Title Defence is Still On

Getafe vs Real Madrid

After their quarter-finals exit in the Champions League at the hands of Arsenal, Real Madrid aim to finish their 2024-25 campaign strong by winning the La Liga and Copa del Rey trophies. Carlo Ancelotti’s side is second in the Spanish top-flight standings, trailing Barcelona by four points after 32 matchdays.

Los Blancos will visit the Coliseum this Wednesday evening to take on Getafe in an intriguing contest. Getafe are 12th in the standings with 39 points but have lost three of their last four league matches.

Jose Bordalas’ men have bigger fish to fry since they have a nine-point cushion to the drop zone. Rather than looking over their shoulders, Geta Azulones may be harbouring ambitions of securing a spot in the Europa Conference League since they’re only five points adrift from seventh-seeded Mallorca.

Talking Points

Getafe are eyeing European football

Getafe must improve their underwhelming home form to make a late push for European qualification. Jose Bordalas’ side has won just one of their last seven matches at the Coliseum (D2, L4), though their lone victory during this span was a 2-1 win against Atletico Madrid last month.

Geta Azulones are fresh from a 1-0 loss against Espanyol, as they conceded the marginal goal from Marash Kumbulla six minutes before halftime. To make matters worse, Getafe were reduced to 10 men when Christantus Uche was sent off during the hour mark for a dangerous tackle.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, with three league goals and five assists this season, must sit out against Los Blancos. Uche’s absence will likely open up more playing time for Borja Mayoral and Juanmi, who combine for four goals this season. Furthermore, the team is assessing Allan Nyom after he sustained a knock against Espanyol. Veteran left-back Diego Rico will return to the rotation after serving his one-match ban.

Mauro Arambarri leads Getafe in scoring with nine league goals, and he’ll need help from Ramon Terrats, Borja Mayoral, Carles Perez, and Alvaro Rodriguez.

Mbappe doubtful for Real Madrid

Real Madrid will remain without long-term absentees Eder Militao, Dani Carvajal, and Ferland Mendy against Getafe. Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe is the latest addition to the injury list.

Mbappe leads Los Blancos with 22 league goals and three assists this season but could miss the Getafe game due to an ankle injury. The former PSG man has served his one-match ban for his red card against Alaves and was absent from yesterday’s 1-0 win against Athletic Bilbao.

Carlo Ancelotti went with Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior, with Mbappe sidelined. Don’t be surprised if Real Madrid keep them up front this Wednesday.

With one eye on the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona this Saturday, Ancelotti will likely rotate his squad and hand starting opportunities for David Alaba, Lucas Vazquez, Arda Guler, Endrick, Brahim Diaz, and Fran Garcia.

History

Real Madrid won 2-0 against Getafe in the reverse fixture last December at the Bernabeu, as Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe scored within eight minutes in the first half. Los Blancos have won 19 of their last 22 La Liga matches against Geta Azulones (D2, L1), scoring a total of 53 goals and conceding just 10 in return.

Getafe’s last win over Real Madrid was a 1-0 result at the Coliseum in January 2022. Enes Unal scored the marginal goal in the ninth minute after a huge mistake from Eder Militao, and Geta Azulones held the narrow lead until the end of the match.

Los Blancos have the edge in recent form with only one loss in their last five league games (W4), while Geta Azulones have won two and lost three during the same period.

Betting Tip

The La Liga 2025 odds expect a straightforward result for Los Blancos this Wednesday. Real Madrid are 1.80 favourites, whereas Getafe are 4.08 underdogs, and a draw is at 3.32 in the 1X2 market. Getafe can make life difficult for Real Madrid, but the visitors’ quality should make the difference, even if Carlo Ancelotti rotates his squad.

Besides our recommended bet, SBOTOP football fans and bettors can expect a few La Liga 2025 highlights from this fixture, making alternatives like Over 2.25 at 1.75, Over 2.50 at 2.03, Over 2.75 at 2.29, and Total Goal 2-3 at 1.97 worth considering. Moreover, a Correct Score of 2-0 in favour of Real Madrid – the result of the reverse fixture – can offer you a decent payday of 7.90.
