Bayern Munich vs Borussia Monchengladbach
Saturday evening is carnival time in Munich as Vincent Kompany’s newly crowned champions return to the Allianz Arena to celebrate their 2025 title with their own fans.
This Bundesliga game is the subtext to this coronation of the Bavarians, and it could be a difficult afternoon for Gerardo Seoane’s Foals who have slipped down the table to ninth recently with a disappointing set of results. At the top, a 3-3 draw with Leipzig was enough for Bayern to win the Bundesliga crown, when Bayer Leverkusen fell short against SC Freiburg to see the gap at the top remain at eight points with just two games to play.
But a winless run of five games has seen Monchengladbach drift in the race for European places. But, a 4-4 draw with TSG Hoffenheim last week left them just three points behind Mainz in seventh.
With two games to play and the champions-elect as their first opponent, it will be hard for Monchengladbach to turn their form around and finish with a bang. I fear they will be lost in Munich amidst a crescendo of Bavarian partying.
Talking Points
Big spending Bayern are planning ahead
It was almost inevitable that Bayern would bounce back and win the title after they invested heavily in the summer. Michael Olise, a capture from Crystal Palace, has been the most impressive of Kompany’s recruits. The flying winger showed plenty of promise at Selhurst Park, but he has thrived in Germany, making 12 assists to add to his 10 goals and Harry Kane, with 24 goals, has been a key beneficiary.
Kompany is not a man to stand still, and reports from the German press suggest that Bayern are plotting to hoover up the best talent from their rivals again, with an approach to the representatives of Leverkusen hotshot Patrik Schick.
Kane is 31 and increasingly injury-prone, and I suspect the Czech striker would not be happy to play second fiddle, having scored 24 goals in 42 games across all competitions this season. At 29, Schick is in his prime, and he may be part of an exodus from Leverkusen when the big offers come in during the summer window.
It appears that one creative star may be on his way out of Munich after winger Leroy Sane apparently u-turned on his agreement in principle of a new contract to stay at the Allianz Arena. The former Manchester City man was set to sign a three-year extension, but the German press has reported he is not happy to accept lower wages without a signing-on-fee, news that has alerted a host of clubs across Europe.
Kleindienst is in demand
The big Bundesliga 2025 news emerging from the visitors’ camp is the potential departure of their main attacking star. Tim Kleindienst, with 16 goals and seven assists, is joint-fourth top scorer in the Bundesliga, three goals behind Schick, so maybe Bayern should take a closer look at him.

But most of the attention on the 29-year-old striker is coming from England, where Tottenham are reported to be willing to part with over €30 million for the 6’4” forward’s signature. Kleindienst won international recognition in 2024 and has scored four goals in six outings with Germany, and West Ham United, Wolves, and Everton have joined Spurs in their tracking of the star.
Alongside the experienced Alassane Plea, who has scored 11 goals, Kleindienst is a real handful, and he scored the injury-time leveller to give the Foals a draw with Hoffenheim last week.
History
Bayern are ahead in the head-to-head meetings by 31 wins to 19, and there have been 18 draws in all competitions since 1992. And a Kane goal gave Die Bayern a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture in January, a result which restored their four-point lead at the top of the table.
In terms of recent form, there isn’t a whole lot to choose between the two teams as the Bavarians have had two wins, three draws, and a single defeat in the last six games, while Die Fohlen have won one, drawn two, and lost three.
Bayern have been superb at the Allianz Arena this season and have won 13, drawn two, and lost just once at home.
Betting Tip
The Bundesliga 2025 betting odds here at SBOTOP suggest this is going to be a coronation with the hosts as short as 1.15 to win in front of their own fans, while Monchengladbach are out at 10.00 to win or 7.30 to draw.
I suspect Bayern will win, but I strongly expect goals, as six of the last eight matches involving these two have yielded four or more, and four of those had between four and six goals.
