Borussia Dortmund vs VfB Stuttgart
Domestic football is back, folks, and boy do we have a cracker at the Signal Iduna Park on Saturday, when Borussia Dortmund welcome VfB Stuttgart in a top-four cracker.
The two teams are locked together on 21 points from 10 games, sitting third and fourth in the Bundesliga table, a point behind second-placed RB Leipzig and one ahead of fifth placed Bayer Leverkusen. All four clubs are chasing Bayern Munich, who have opened up a six-point gap at the top of the table, and a single point is no good for Die Schwarzgelben this weekend, and Die Schwaben will not sit back and park the bus.
Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac will be looking for his team to bounce back from a frustrating draw with Hamburg before the break, while Sebastian Hoeness’ Stuttgart are hoping to build on a thrilling 3-2 win at home to Augsburg.
Make no mistake, the fans of Bayern, Leipzig, and Leverkusen will be watching the Bundesliga 2025 updates from Dortmund on Saturday afternoon to see which club makes a move. It’s the SBOTOP match of the weekend in Germany, and I’m expecting a classic.
Talking Points
The break came at a good time for Kovac
Borussia Dortmund made a strong start to the 2025/26 campaign, and the Bundesliga 2025 betting odds installed Die Scharzgelben as the main challenger to Bayer Munich’s title defence, but Kovac’s team suffered a couple of setbacks immediately before the international break. A defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League was no big surprise, but it was the 4-1 margin which was damaging. And a few days later, they lost a 1-0 lead away to Hamburg in the 97th minute.
That switch-off proved to be very costly for Die Schwarzgelben, losing them second place and putting some unwanted pressure on their manager. So, Kovac may have welcomed the two-week hiatus, though many of his players were away on international duty.

Jobe Bellingham, who has been in much better form in recent weeks, will surely be a crucial player for BVB in the coming weeks. Up front, Serhou Guirassy will lead the line against Stuttgart, as Kovac will task his men with taking the game to their visitors, while wide-man Karim Adeyemi will also look to exploit any space offered. Dortmund needs a dominant display and 100-per cent concentration, until the final whistle.
Hoeness’ hails Stuttgart spirit
While Kovac was probably ready for a rethink, his opposite number Hoeness would have liked his team to get back out on the pitch quickly after they came out on the right side of a five-goal thriller against Augsburg.
The VfB boss was thrilled with the spirit and togetherness of his team saying: “It was a hard and difficult game – Augsburg really challenged, and we were mentally at our limit after many matches in recent days. My team mobilized everything and we are very happy that we got the three points.”
In a recent clash with RB Leipzig, Stuttgart were found wanting as they went down to a 3-1 defeat. But they responded well by beating Feyenoord in the Europa League and followed that up with the win over Augsburg.
Stuttgart are captained by defencive midfielder Atakan Karazor. The 29-year-old Turkish star has been with the club since 2019 and is a powerful presence in the centre of the park.
And up front, they have an experienced goal getter in Deniz Undav, who scored twice in the win over Augsburg. The 29-year-old striker has had a one in two ratio for much of his career, struggling to reach those heights only in a difficult two seasons at Brighton. Undav has scored three goals in six internationals for Germany and 30 in 62 games for Stuttgart and will be the visitors’ biggest goal threat on Saturday.
History
Both these clubs are Bundesliga champions relatively recently. BVB won back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012, while Stuttgart were champions in 2007, and Die Schwaben were runners-up in 2024.
Borussia have won 19 to Stuttgart’s 14 of the last 42 encounters, and there have been nine draws. But Die Schwaben have won the last five meetings, including a 2-1 victory at the Signal Iduna Park when they met in February.
In terms of recent form, Dortmund have won three, drawn two, and lost one of their last six games in all competitions. Meanwhile, Stuttgart have won four games and lost two.
Betting Tip
Borussia Dortmund are favourites to win this clash at a price of 1.75, with Stuttgart at 3.95 and the Draw at 3.75. And the Double Chance: Stuttgart or Draw is priced at 2.00.
I’m expecting goals in this mouthwatering match. And for a correct scoreline a 3-1 home win, priced at 11.00, is my long shot alternative.
